Music Theory Tuition
Pippa has studied music theory for ABRSM Grade 5, G.C.S.E., A Level (which included Bach Chorale harmonisation), B.A. Music (which included a modules in Jazz Harmony and Advanced Jazz Harmony) and M.A. Composition.
Theory lessons can be useful to help teach how to read music, understand chords, scales, harmony and all the other aspects that go along side learning an instrument. They aid in understanding an instrument properly and getting the most out of playing by yourself and with other people. Pippa's lessons will prove to any student that learning the 'language' of music doesn't have to be hard or scary and learning the theory behind the magic doesn't hinder creativity or talent. Music theory Grade 5 is necessary for any student wanting to take their Grade 6 or above in an instrumental board exam. Elements of theory will be taught within instrumental lessons but in order to work up to Grade 5 gradually it is advisable to also have some theory lessons before this point is reached, something that can be discussed in instrumental lessons.
Pippa enters students for exams with the London College of Music or The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, depending on which style they study. She also enjoys working with those students who prefer a more relaxed, exam free approach to learning. Each student receives an individual program of study determined by a mutually agreed plan of 'Aims and Objectives' discussed in the first few lessons, which is followed up by regular (informal) 'Achievement Reports'.
Pippa teaches beginner to intermediate level theory. She enters theory students who would like to study grade exams for grades 1-5.
